Venchi 70% Extra Dark Chocolate Bar with Hazelnuts is a quarter whole hazelnuts by weight, and not just any hazelnuts: 25 percent Piedmont PGI Hazelnut, the Tonda Gentile grown in the Langhe hills south of Turin under a protected designation, the same sort of legal guarantee a DOP cheese carries. The chocolate is a fine extra dark blend from Latin America at seventy percent, pitched so the toasted nut comes forward rather than fighting the cocoa. Vegan and high in fibre. Break it rather than cutting it so the nuts stay whole, and pour a glass of red alongside. This is Piedmont in a single bar.
