Strega Prodigi Chocolate Covered Croccante is Italian nut brittle dipped in chocolate. Croccante is what Italians make at village festivals: sugar cooked down to caramel with nuts stirred through and left to set hard, so it shatters when you bite it. The chocolate coating softens that edge and keeps it from being purely sweet. It comes from Strega Alberti in Benevento, a town in Campania where the family has been making sweets and the famous yellow Strega liqueur since 1860. Keep it somewhere cool, because brittle turns sticky in a warm kitchen and loses its snap. Have a piece with an espresso after dinner and you will understand why Italians never stop at one.
