Fiasconaro Sicilian Citrus and Saffron Panettone brings the Madonie mountains into a Milanese classic. The family bakery in Castelbuono builds its dough on a sourdough starter, then works in candied lemon and orange peel from Sicily, mandarin paste and real saffron, so the crumb comes out golden, soft and fragrant, with a bittersweet citrus edge that cuts right through the butter. Agrumi e zafferano translates as citrus and saffron. If your idea of panettone is the dry, raisin-studded supermarket kind, this will change it. Warm a slice very gently before serving to open up the aroma, and pour a glass of sweet dessert wine or an espresso alongside.
