The Chancerelle cannery, the Connetable brand’s parent company, was born in 1853 as the first cannery in France. Throughout history, this cannery has been a very important source of canned sardines, especially during times of need such as the US civil war. In 1867, The Chancerelle cannery won the Silver Medal at the Paris World Fair for the highest quality of its products and ingredients used to create them. In 1957, Connetable launched its hallmark red tin whole sardines in extra virgin oil, which remains to be the brand’s flagship product today.
