Whole green cardamom, or Elaichi are the pods of the cardamom plant that have been dried. The spice is native to the Indian subcontinent and is used for many different dishes to impart a strong aromatic yet refreshing taste to the dish. The general rule of thumb is that 10 pods is equivalent to about 1.5 teaspoons of ground cardamom. Cardamom pods are most utilized in basmati rice and curries, but can also be used to enhance the flavor of sweet dishes and desserts.
